Refrigerated Containers, Like Everything, Need Maintenance

If you’re a home owner, you know very well how important it is to maintain your A/C unit, and it’s no different for a refrigerated container. A lot of maintenance comes down to preventative measures i.e. proper use, proper functioning space and proper transportation, but routine maintenance and occasional repair are required.

Here’s our breakdown on keeping a healthy and cold container:

Preventative Measures:

Keeping the area clear – the location where the refrigerated container was originally located may be in a high traffic area or in an area commonly used for equipment or other storage. Conversely, some locations are nice and prepared initially but over time become susceptible to overgrowth of weeds or grasses. Ensure your container unit has a clear and marked perimeter to reduce any possible interference or damage.

Keep an ear out – a healthy refrigerated container unit hums. If you hear anything abnormal like a higher pitch, low rumbling, increased vibrations or motor fluctuations then it’s definitely time to get your refrigerated container serviced.

Routine maintenance – if you’re leasing or renting your refrigerated unit then you’ll probably covered by the company you got your unit from (we service all of our refrigerated units). If you own your refrigerated container unit then you’ll want to make sure to schedule routine maintenance at least twice a year.

Ice Build Up – you’d think a refrigerated container until and ice build up might be normal but this is actually a sign that your unit is not functioning properly and this ice build up will block your airflow and greatly reduce the effectiveness of your refrigerated container. This is also a typical sign that something in your container unit needs servicing or replacing.

Typical Maintenance Needs:

Very similar to a home A/C unit, a service technician will be checking your condenser coil, listening for abnormalities, checking oil in the compressor, checking refrigerant levels and monitoring key part components to make sure there’s no stress fractures, cracks or leaks happening.

While it’s important for you to keep up on the preventative measures, it is always advised to rely on a service professional to service your refrigerated container.
